The ambu bag is used to provide manual respiration to those who have stopped breathing by squeezing and releasing the pressure from the self-filling silicone bag. Each squeeze forces air or oxygen into the airways of the patient by way of the face mask that has been sealed around the mouth and nose. This ensures a continuous flow of oxygen to the brain and other organs until better breathing mechanisms are applied.
