Abdominal pain after sex is relatively common and can range from mild cramping to more persistent discomfort. In many cases, it may be caused by deep penetration, muscle strain, or temporary irritation of pelvic organs. However, underlying conditions can also play a role. For example, uterine fibroids noncancerous growths in the uterus can lead to pelvic pressure and pain during or after intercourse. Other possible causes include ovarian cysts, urinary tract infections (UTIs), pelvic floor dysfunction, or endometriosis, all of which may trigger lower abdominal pain.
