Patients diagnosed with active breast cancer—or those who elect to undergo a preventative mastectomy to reduce their cancer risk—should understand the treatment journey and potential complications. This journey may include chemotherapy or radiation as part of the medical treatment, or it may involve just a mastectomy or lumpectomy. In most cases, breast reconstruction with implants is the final step. However, complications can arise during this process, such as hematoma, seroma, infection, or the effects of radiation. These issues may lead to breast implant problems, including firmness, high-riding, uneven, or painful implants—often due to a condition called Capsular Contracture.
