The Bible has a lot to say about sports, and it can be divided into two main categories: physical activity and competition. Physical activity is good for our bodies and helps us to stay fit and healthy. The Bible says, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:8). This verse shows that while exercise is good for our bodies, it’s not the most important thing in life. We should also pursue godliness. Competition, on the other hand, can be dangerous if we’re not careful. The Bible warns us against being prideful or envious of others (Proverbs 16:18; James 3:16). When we compete with others, we need to make sure that our motives are pure. We should be playing to glorify God and not ourselves.
